Kokomere Adventure Safaris
A small tent glowing under a full moon in the African bush

A different kind of safari

Participation Safaris

Same wilderness. Half the price.

What it is

The same Botswana — a different way to be there

For travelers who want to be more involved in the adventure, our participation safaris offer a hands-on, authentic way to experience Botswana at a more accessible price. You'll still enjoy the thrill of exploring the wilderness, sleeping under canvas, and gathering around the campfire beneath African skies — but you'll become part of the camp team.

Guests lend a hand with meal preparation, cooking, and the setup and breakdown of camp as we move between destinations. With smaller en-suite tents, an experienced guide, and the shared camaraderie of life in the bush, this style of safari brings you closer to the rhythms of wilderness camping.

It's an opportunity to experience not just Botswana's wildlife, but the adventure of making the journey happen together. With a group of four or five friends, you can experience this style of safari for as little as $2,800 per person for 10 days in the bush.

Your role in camp

What you'll participate in

No prior experience needed. These are simple, satisfying tasks — and doing them together is part of what makes a participation safari special.

Camp setup & breakdown

Help pitch and strike camp as you move through the wilderness. There is something deeply satisfying about building your home for the night and leaving no trace when you go.

Cooking over the campfire

Meals are hearty, fresh, and made together. You'll help prepare food over an open fire the way it's done in the bush — no chef required, no flavour sacrificed.

Washing up & camp cleanup

Dishes, surfaces, and the general rhythm of a tidy camp. Simple tasks that take minutes as a group and keep the bush camp running smoothly.

The daily rhythm of bush life

Fetch water, tend the fire, help with sundowners. You become part of the camp — not a guest passing through it. That difference is felt in every moment.

Side by side

Participation vs. fully serviced

Both options deliver the same Botswana wilderness. The choice is between doing it yourself and having it done for you — and saving roughly half the cost along the way.

Who it's for

Is a participation safari right for you?

You'll love it if…

  • You want more time in Botswana for your budget
  • You're comfortable camping and don't mind getting your hands dirty
  • You'd rather work alongside your guide than be waited on
  • The adventure matters more to you than the luxury
  • You're travelling solo, as a couple, or with friends who share that spirit

Our fully serviced safari may suit you better if…

  • You want to arrive and have everything taken care of
  • You're celebrating a milestone and want the full luxury experience
  • Your group includes young children or guests with mobility considerations
  • You'd prefer a private chef preparing every meal

The price difference

By sharing the work and eliminating a full camp staff and private chef, a participation safari typically costs roughly half as much as our fully serviced safari — making Botswana accessible to travelers who would rather spend their money on more time in the bush than on luxury service.
