First-time safari travellers almost always have the same questions. We've answered the most common ones below — but please get in touch if you don't find what you're looking for.

Do I need to set up my own tent?

Not at all. Your dedicated camp crew will have everything ready and waiting before you arrive at each location. All you have to do is walk into your tent, find freshly made beds with white linens and cosy duvets, and enjoy a cold drink while dinner is prepared. We handle everything — setup, breakdown, laundry of camp items, and every logistical detail.

What documents do I need for international travel to Botswana?

Most travellers need a valid passport with at least six months' remaining validity beyond their travel dates. Citizens of the USA, UK, most EU countries, and many others do not require a visa to enter Botswana for stays under 90 days. If your safari includes a Victoria Falls extension to Zambia, you will need a valid passport and a Zambia tourist visa, which can typically be obtained on arrival. We recommend confirming current visa requirements for your specific nationality before travel.

Can we include lodge nights for extra comfort?

Absolutely. Our camping safaris are already far more comfortable than traditional camping — with proper canvas tents, real beds, en-suite facilities, and a private chef — but we are happy to incorporate one or two lodge nights into any itinerary. We can also design a fully lodge-based safari experience if you prefer. Just let us know your preferences when you get in touch.

Will I have mobile phone or internet access?

In remote wilderness areas, reliable mobile connectivity is limited or non-existent — which, honestly, is part of the appeal. You will not be checking emails while elephants pass your tent at dusk. Emergency communication is always available through our guides, and we can occasionally set up a mobile hotspot for urgent needs. Solar charging is available at every camp so your devices and cameras will always be powered.

What should I pack?

We recommend neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, tan, grey), a good warm layer for early mornings and cold evenings, closed-toe shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a quality camera with a backup battery. If your itinerary includes bush plane transfers between camps, there are strict weight limits — typically 10–12 kg per person in a soft-sided duffel bag. How large will our group be?

You won't be grouped with strangers — unless you are joining one of our scheduled safaris designed for singles or small groups looking to travel with a few others. The majority of our safaris are 100% private: exclusively yours, accommodating up to 6 guests with the option of 2 additional children. Most of our guests are couples, families, or small friend groups. The private experience means your guide can follow your interests, move at your pace, and stay with a sighting as long as you like.

Is Botswana safe to visit?

Yes — Botswana is one of Africa's most politically stable and safe countries, with a strong tradition of democracy and good governance. Crime rates in tourist areas and the Okavango region are very low. Botswana is also one of the more progressive countries in Africa in terms of human rights, and our guides are trained to ensure all guests — including LGBTQ+ travellers — feel completely comfortable and respected.

Is this trip suitable for children?

Yes, with the right expectations. We welcome families and can accommodate children in most itineraries — some reserves have age restrictions (typically 12+ in national parks for walking safaris), but our mobile camping safaris are generally well-suited to children who enjoy the outdoors. We can tailor activities, pacing, and camp setup to suit families. Let us know your children's ages when you enquire and we will advise the best options.

What happens if a game drive doesn't produce wildlife?

In over a decade of running safaris in the Okavango, we have never come back empty-handed — but we are always honest that the bush is wild and unpredictable. That is what makes it real. We have deep knowledge of animal movement, seasonal patterns, and off-the-beaten-track locations that maximise sightings. If you have a specific animal on your bucket list, tell us — we will focus our efforts accordingly.

When is the best time to visit Botswana?

For wildlife viewing, May through October is the dry season — animals concentrate around water sources, making sightings more reliable and landscapes more open. The peak months of June through August offer mild temperatures and exceptional conditions. November through April is the green season: fewer tourists, lower rates, lush scenery, and superb birding, though some areas can be harder to access. The Delta actually floods in June–August due to rains in Angola — creating the iconic scenes of animals wading through water.
