Chobe National Park

The greatest elephant population on Earth

About this destination

The greatest elephant population on Earth

Home to over 120,000 elephants — the largest concentration anywhere on the planet — Chobe's Riverfront is one of Africa's most spectacular wildlife viewing areas, accessible by both land and water.

Chobe RiverfrontKasane AreaNorthern Chobe

The Chobe River forms Botswana's northern border, and during the dry season it becomes a magnet for wildlife from across a vast area. Elephant herds of hundreds descend to drink and bathe daily — spectacular processions that last all day and fill the riverbank with activity. Hippos, crocodile, and a dizzying diversity of waterbirds complete the scene.

Chobe is also one of very few parks in Africa where you can game drive by river, aboard a purpose-built boat. The afternoon riverboat safari — watching enormous herds of elephant swim between islands while the sun drops toward the horizon — is genuinely world-class. You're close enough to hear them breathe.

Chobe National Park connects directly to Savuti in its south and to Kasane and Victoria Falls in its north, making it a natural part of any multi-destination safari itinerary. For guests extending to Victoria Falls, Chobe is the ideal final night before crossing into Zimbabwe or Zambia.
